In 2023 we took a slightly different approach. Truly believing that the foundation of training quality is strong knowledge of road traffic rules and recognizing the contribution of regional schools and leaders to the industry, this time we searched for regional champions and compared them with each other regardless of their business size.

All driving schools were divided by regions: Zemgale, Vidzeme, Latgale, Kurzeme and Riga together with those schools that provide training throughout Latvia.

In previous years we received votes for schools mentioned in the TOP list, but they were not sufficient for those schools to rank among the largest or best at the national level. When compiling the Driving Schools TOP 5, we collected these votes and also considered student reviews on driving school websites and social networks.

Zemgale Auto Moto School (ZAMS driving school) is a Cinderella story. Within one year this driving school managed to improve its training results by 15%, reaching first place in Latvia in the last quarter of the year among the top 30 largest driving schools in Latvia, exceeding 97% in theory — 97.35%. This still slightly lags behind the absolute record of Presto Driving School in 2021 — 98.24%, but everything is still ahead.

Whether this is a coincidence or the result of long-term, systematic methodological work, and whether the same results can be maintained and repeated next year, time will tell.

ZAMS driving school is one of the leaders in Zemgale. Since exams in the region are taken in Jelgava, ZAMS closely competes with the largest driving schools in Jelgava, such as STNIG, K. USTUPA driving school, as well as the Rīga Driving school Mustangs and two nationwide driving schools — Einšteins and Presto.

ZAMS has its own fan base, which cannot go unnoticed, therefore we congratulate them on a job well done.

When evaluating the performance of driving schools in the category of Rīga and those operating on a nationwide level, there was intense competition between Presto Driving School, Driving school Credo Autoprieks, Driving school Einšteins, Driving school Gross and Driving school Mustangs. In the first half of the year the leader was Credo Autoprieks, however by the end of the year its distance learning product macam.lv clearly disappointed. It is possible that the scales tipped in favor of Presto and Einšteins after presenting their own distance learning solutions, with Presto ultimately winning. What used to be considered good no longer seems as acceptable.

Throughout the year Presto delivered stable performance within the range of 94–96%, with a breakthrough in the last quarter of the year, reaching 95.68%. It is very positive that consumers can rely on consistently high and stable quality.

We would like to present the leader and champion of Latgale — Driving school Vikingi. This is a very comprehensive driving school offering training in all categories and achieving good learning results across them. Although the theory results are slightly lower than those of the first two places, the difference is not significant. Vikingi is the largest driving school in Latgale by the number of students served in the region.

The driving school’s theory exam results improved by 5% during the year, increasing from 89% to 94%. In Latgale, exams are taken at the regional CSDD centers in Rēzekne and Daugavpils. There is strong competition with local schools such as Driving school Kristīne (which holds half of the business in Latgale), Driving school AAA, Driving school Sports un Tehnika and Driving school Viktoria. Students sometimes take exams outside the region as well — in Gulbene and Jēkabpils — but this happens rarely.

The driving school also shows good results in practical driving exams across all categories. We wish them continued momentum and growth in the coming year.

Driving school Autostils L, commonly known simply as Autostils, has been the largest driving school in Liepāja and therefore in the Kurzeme region for many years. Liepāja is a regional CSDD center where all Autostils students take their exams.

Another notable driving school in the Kurzeme region is Driving school DSI, where exams are taken at the CSDD regional center in Talsi. Unfortunately, DSI’s training results were weaker than both Autostils and the other TOP driving schools.

The competition for students in Liepāja mainly takes place with Ezermala driving school. The other schools are relatively small (perhaps Aivars driving school is worth mentioning for category A), as well as nationwide driving schools such as Einšteins and Presto.

The quality of training at Autostils, both in theory and driving practice, has remained consistently high. This driving school has also managed to significantly improve its performance during the year. The percentage of students passing the theory exam on the first attempt increased by 6% — rising from 86% to 92%.

The face and driving force of the school is its director, Mārtiņš Zauka, who can often be seen in the driving school’s social media content.

The school has not yet expanded beyond Liepāja, which we wish for them to achieve in the future.

This driving school has appeared in our driving school TOP for the second time. Driving school AMV takes 1st place in the Vidzeme driving school category (with Einšteins competing in the Rīga and nationwide category) and 4th place in the overall regional comparison ranking.

In Vidzeme, AMV provides training in Sigulda, Valmiera and Limbaži. The Vidzeme CSDD regional center is located in Valmiera, where students arrive even from considerable distances. AMV faces strong competition with Driving school Lauris, Driving school Sprīdītis, Driving school AGR Auto Plus in Valmiera, and Driving school Stars in Sigulda.

The quality of training at Driving school AMV, both in theory and driving practice, is relatively high. However, during the year the theory results were somewhat unstable and fluctuated like a roller coaster between 88% and 95%, finishing the year at 92%.

We wish the school greater stability in the coming year.
